The total official rainfall at the city water treatment plant in January was 5.66 inches; almost double the usual January rainfall figure of 2.88 inches. In the dry January of 2011, Sulphur Springs only recorded 1.44 inches. January is normally a cold month but temperatures this January were mild with high and low temperatures about five degrees above normal.
